7 Kitchen Trends in 2023

Trends through the decades

Kitchen trends are constantly changing. Forbes talks about a different trend for every single decade dating back to the 1900s.

There are never-ending options when it comes to designing your kitchen. However, there was a time when people only used a sink and stove. Things have rapidly changed since then with kitchens becoming more modern, stylish, and functional.

Fast-forward to the 2000s, ‘aesthetic kitchens’ were born. This is due to the rapid growth of social media with inspiration constantly circulating the internet. Global media company Forbes describes this as the ‘new millennium’.

Kitchen Trends 2023

In 2023 things continue to rapidly evolve. Predictions for 2023 trends are already in discussion. Let’s explore these trends below.

Colour trends

Research highlights that old trends are returning. In the 1950s, kitchens had very bright and soft colours including blue, pink, and yellow often described as ‘candy type’ colours. Research suggests this 1950s style is returning with brighter colours being re-embraced.

American Businesswomen Martha Stewart supports this prediction emphasizing we should expect to see more colourful cabinetry and ‘pops of colour’.

Lilac and Lavender

Interesting statistics also show that lilac and lavender are rising in popularity. Pinterest found a 50 percent rise in interest drawn to lilac kitchens. People seem to be more likely to experiment with different colours. These may also include more expressive materials including metallics, concrete and textured doors. We are also more likely to see marble-effect and stone finishes.

The Insider has also discussed the popularity of darker hues in white kitchens. Their research suggests people are moving away from all white-kitchens and adding darker hues.

Lower Kitchen Drawers

Another trend people are talking about is lower kitchen drawers. This trend suggests that kitchens will have numerous lower drawers that easily glide out and are great for storage purposes.

The Power of Two

Better Homes & Gardens spoke to designers about their 2023 predictions. Their findings highlight people are doubling up for efficiency. They also state National Kitchen and Bathroom Association supports this with people doubling up on dishwashers and ovens.

Simple Cabinet Doors

Better Homes & Gardens also highlight the excitement around Simple Cabinet Doors that will be modern but simple. This can be considered more practical as kitchen trends constantly evolve. Simple cabinet doors may be more practical and less likely to become outdated.

Sustainability

Houzz undertook research investigating 2,380 U.S homeowners regarding their recent or planned kitchen renovation. They found that sustainability is a key part of decision making when it comes to renovations in 2023.

Statistics show that 92% of homeowners incorporated sustainable features during their kitchen renovation. Findings show 65% of renovation choices include LED bulbs. These are designed to use less energy providing the same amount of light compared with other forms of lighting.

Overall, we can expect that people are more likely to use more natural materials which may include stone, granite, and wood.
